Puzzle solver. Connection seeker. Systems designer for humans.
I’m Kathleen, and I improve how work gets done – by designing HR and operational systems for the way people actually use them.
I work with growing teams to simplify processes, reduce friction, and make day-to-day operations easier to manage. The goal isn’t more structure: it’s the right structure, used consistently.
How I Started, and How I Work
I’ve worked in various roles and departments, and two things I noticed every time I started a new role were: workarounds and repetition.
I pay attention to those two things because they add up. They waste time, confuse data, and frustrate people.
I’ve expanded my scope from helping ease the friction in my own work to improving systems for teams and organizations. By understanding how people actually use processes day to day, I simplify and refine them so they reduce friction instead of creating it, and people can focus on work that’s more impactful (and enjoyable!).
What I Do: Two Examples
Performance Management
Problem: The general consensus was ‘performance reviews are a waste of time‘. Fair – they kind of were! They were time consuming, didn’t produce much in the way of useful data, and weren’t improving performance.
How I tackled it: I took a look at the system and noted what I found lacking, met with managers and employees to gather feedback, and researched best practices. From there, I designed and implemented an updated system that included ongoing feedback, occasional self-reviews, and annual formal review meetings.
Result: Much better! We were able to gather far more useful data, identify and address several friction points, and relieve some of the time consuming administrative burden from the process.
Policy & Compliance
Problem: Policies hadn’t been updated in over a decade—creating compliance risk and a disconnect between written policy and actual workplace culture.
How I tackled it: Prioritized regulatory compliance (OHS, Employment Standards, etc.), worked with stakeholders to draft policies aligned with real workflows, culture, and employee needs.
Result: Policies that are compliant, useful, and understandable, and that are relevant to the company’s culture, environment, and how people work and live.
Why Work With Me?
A fresh pair of eyes is often what’s needed to see those bumps people have learned to work around. I’m naturally curious about how systems break down and where effort is being wasted. That often means working closely with leadership, talking to employees, and observing real workflows to identify where improvements will have the most impact.
What will you get out of it? Smoother people operations, better data, happier people. Processes people actually follow, policies that work with – and for – your organization, and more time for your employees to focus on impactful work.
